About The Position

This position is for a Second Grade Teacher with a 10-month term of employment. The role is exempt and follows the EACC, U1 salary scale. The teacher will be responsible for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences, supervising students, monitoring and evaluating student outcomes, and communicating with students, parents, staff, and the community. The teacher will develop instructional plans and materials, provide a conducive environment for child development, strive for professional competence, maintain records, and monitor the use of equipment and facilities. Additionally, the teacher will prepare students for later grades, provide resources for exploration, organize activities for development, and serve on committees as needed. Other duties may be assigned as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement, and the Building Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and meets licensure requirements as established by the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Other experience as established by Maryland Law and Board of Education policy.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Evidence of exemplary human relation skills.
  • Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
  • Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community.
  • Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Serves on special committees.
  • Other duties as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement and Building Principal.
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
