About The Position

We are seeking a Second Cup Barista to join our team at the Second Cup in the Killam Library at Dalhousie University! As a Second Cup Barista, you’ll be at the heart of our café. You’ll craft high-quality espresso drinks, share your passion for premium teas and specialty beverages, and create a warm, welcoming environment for our local community. Whether you're a seasoned coffee enthusiast or looking to learn the art of espresso, we provide hands-on training to help you succeed.

Requirements

Knowledge of and commitment to upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene.
Additional certification may be required by work location
Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine desire to provide outstanding customer service.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

Nice To Haves

Previous food service experience is an asset
Experience working with Second Cup or similar specialty-coffee franchise an asset
Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced), First Aid Certification is an asset

Responsibilities

Craft Quality Beverages: Prepare espresso drinks, iced beverages, teas, and specialty creations to Second Cup recipe and quality standards.
Deliver Great Service: Welcome every guest with a warm smile, take orders accurately, and build connections with regulars.
Maintain Café Standards: Keep the bar, counter, seating area, and display cases clean, organized, and inviting.
Food & Cash Handling: Prepare light food items (pastries, sandwiches) and process transactions quickly and accurately at the register.
Teamwork: Work collaboratively with fellow team members during peak rushes to keep the shift running smoothly.
