About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Manager - Food & Nutrition Services, or designate, the Second Cook is responsible for the preparation of foods for residents, staff, patrons, special functions and Meals on Wheels. This role involves preparing regular and therapeutic foods, ensuring correct portioning and attractive presentation, and participating in recipe development and maintenance. The position also requires adherence to sanitary food handling and storage practices, maintaining cleanliness of the work area and equipment, assisting with supply requisitions, and providing courteous customer service. Participation in safety measures like fire drills and evacuations is also a key part of the role.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an Ontario Apprenticeship program for the Certified trade of Cook, together with a minimum of 3 years experience as an Institutional Cook
  • Successful completion of the food handler training program as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
  • A genuine understanding of the needs of the elderly is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to practice good lifting and safety and sanitation techniques
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer
  • Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest/affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies
  • Must pass work fitness test
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment
  • Prior to commencing employment, must undergo a successful Offence & Professional Misconduct Declaration Process
  • Must successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the Corporation on an annual basis

Responsibilities
