About The Position

This is a seasonal, on-call position with the City and County of Denver's Parks and Recreation department. The role supports the Water Conservation Program and plays a crucial part in maintaining Denver's urban parks. This position offers an opportunity to develop skills in irrigation maintenance and repair, landscaping, and lake maintenance, providing a foundation for career advancement within the department. The position involves working outdoors, utilizing various tools and equipment, and performing a range of maintenance and repair tasks. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. MST, with a maximum of 39 hours per week. The starting pay is $20.06 per hour.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Reliable and driven individual looking to grow and develop a well-rounded skill set in park maintenance.
  • Ability to enjoy working outside.
  • Adept with safety considerations.
  • Eager to learn a variety of functions.
  • Parks maintenance experience.
  • Proficiency with various hand-powered tools and motorized equipment including watercraft.
  • Experience and/or interest in irrigation, landscaping, and lake management.

Responsibilities

  • Work outdoors in parks using and maintaining various hand-powered tools, motorized equipment, small boats, and utility vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform landscape installation and maintenance duties such as site preparation, demolition, trenching, planting, grading, mulching, and establishment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and installation of new irrigation systems.
  • Perform demolition and renovation of existing irrigation control equipment for central control and flow monitoring.
  • Conduct general parks repair, projects, and maintenance.
  • Perform infrastructure maintenance and repair, including irrigation systems, concrete, water quality equipment, and grade work/erosion control.
  • Interact with and learn alongside seasoned park maintenance professionals.
  • Perform snow removal operations such as plowing, shoveling, and de-icing.
  • Perform various related duties as needed, such as trash collection, bathroom maintenance and cleaning, and vandalism repair/graffiti removal.
