Among other duties, the Trail Groomer is responsible for maintaining ski trails, light equipment maintenance, and maintaining access points. To achieve the desired winter grooming results, the Trail Groomer works closely with the Construction Crew team and Lodging Management team to determine daily duties to best care for and maintain AMC’s extensive cross-country ski trails.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely operate a snowmobile.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain a variety of power equipment and work for extended periods of time outdoors in all types of weather conditions alone.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and outgoing friendly attitude.
  • Ability to complete a diverse variety of work tasks and non-conventional work schedules.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain.
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Success in performing a wide range assigned tasks.
  • Must be a team player, detail oriented, well organized, highly flexible, adaptable, and resourceful while also working alone at times.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds at the Lodges and in the backcountry.
  • Ability to travel safely in the backcountry in all weather conditions.
  • Criminal background record check performed on their name annually with employment contingent upon satisfactory results.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely by following all AMC protocols for winter safety and equipment operation.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with the Grooming team, the Construction Crew team, and AMC’s Lodge Management and Staff.

  • Maintain and perform pre-season maintenance on winter ski trails and signage.
  • Safely and effectively operate various types of snow grooming equipment i.e., snowmobiles, snow grooming drags, Nordic style groomers, tractors, Pistenbully.
  • Safely work independently in remote areas after dark grooming ski trails.
  • Perform equipment maintenance as needed, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Provide friendly and attentive professional guest services.
  • Provide safe transportation of guests, luggage and cargo to and from facilities, via company vehicle, as necessary.
  • Provides periodic backup support to facility, trails and education staff as requested by the Grooming Manager.
  • Implement energy conservation and environmentally sound practices in daily operations.
  • Provide information to visitors and guests about the AMC, local natural and cultural history, risk management, outdoor recreation opportunities and AMC land management practices.
  • Reporting daily to Grooming Manager for daily/weekly work schedule
