About The Position

This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to street maintenance, including pothole repair, concrete work, and asphalt base repair. The position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, performing hands-on tasks, operating equipment, and working as part of a team. The Seasonal Street Maintenance Worker performs entry-level, semi-skilled work in the inspection, construction, maintenance, and repair of the city’s streets, sidewalks, alleys, medians, curbs, and gutters. Duties include hand excavation, heavy lifting, hauling materials, and operating tools and heavy equipment as part of a crew. This is the first level in a three-level career progression.

Requirements

No experience is required.
Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.
A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required.
Must be able to operate a commercial vehicle within the State of Kansas.
Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of one’s arms and legs, moving one’s whole body to lift, balance, walk, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, and handle or carry materials.
Must be able to work safely in distracting situations including high volume traffic areas.

Nice To Haves

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
A class B commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements are required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

Performs construction and maintenance activities including concrete and asphalt removal, prep and finishing, crack seal prep and placement, poly-foam leveling, and pothole repairs.
Participates in winter snow and ice maintenance operations.
Follows established procedures to repair distressed areas in streets, sidewalks, alleyways, and gutters.
Operates a variety of specialty equipment and vehicles, including trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, and hand and power tools.
Maintains a safe job site and work environment by ensuring proper traffic control and safety standards.
Performs emergency duties, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours as required.
May work modified hours as needed.
