About The Position

The purpose of this class is to operate light to medium equipment and perform manual labor in the abatement of mosquitos. This role involves maintaining assigned equipment and performing other related duties. The position works according to established procedures but requires independent decision-making on how or when to execute tasks, with regular review by a supervisor. This post has been extended, and qualified candidates need not re-apply. Applications will be reviewed weekly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to read maps/GPS and locate specific areas within the County.
  • Must be able to work non-standard shift hours; normal working hours begins at 9 PM.
  • Must be able to work with pesticides.
  • Generally, this position will be 15-25 hours per week during mosquito season (April – November).

Responsibilities

  • Operates a mosquito spray truck four (4) to six (6) hours per evening as needed.
  • Carries out the County's safety program in pesticide applicator and application equipment safety as required by federal/state laws.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records of operations.
  • Manually loads/unloads equipment and supplies onto vehicles.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Assists co-workers with various duties as required.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Attends training as required to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
  • When requested before, during, or after an emergency event, County employees are expected to work and serve the public in coping with the emergency.
