About The Position

Join our team! We are hiring for the role of Seasonal Plow Operator/Maintenance Laborer in the Street Department! This is a seasonal position from November through Mid-March. The role involves operating various trucks and equipment for clearing and maintaining city streets and rights-of-way, including snow removal and salt spreading. Responsibilities also include operating chain saws, pole saws, and stump grinders, hauling brush and trees, picking up trash along roadsides, assisting with leaf collection, and periodically repairing streets and public rights-of-way. The position may require flagging/traffic control at work sites, cleaning/maintaining vehicles and equipment, and occasionally working extended evening or weekend hours. Employees are on 24-hour call for emergency situations as assigned and may be required to work other shifts as needed to cover vacant positions.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or comparable years of work experience.
• Must be 18 years of age to work in rights-of-way.
• Possession of a valid Indiana driver’s license.
• Demonstrated safe driving record.
• Must remain insurable through the City’s liability insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

• Operate various models of trucks and equipment for clearing and maintaining city streets and rights-of-way, including snow removal equipment for clearing sidewalks/streets and spreading salt.
• Operate chain saws, pole saws, and stump grinder; haul brush and storm-damaged trees from city rights-of way.
• Walk along roadsides and pick up trash.
• Assist with the collection of leaves along city rights-of-way.
• Periodically repair streets and public rights-of-way; assist with flagging/traffic control at work sites; and assist in cleaning/maintaining vehicles and equipment.
• Occasionally work extended evening or weekend hours and are on 24-hour call for emergency situations as assigned.
• May be required to work other shifts as needed, or to cover vacant positions due to vacations, sickness or other absenteeism.
