About The Position

The City of High Point Parks & Recreation Department enhances quality of life by providing innovative programs, parks and facilities for present and future generations. The Park Attendant-Maintenance employee assists with grounds maintenance and facility upkeep on a large municipal park; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. Will be trained in all areas of the park, including Operations, to provide coverage as needed. Work schedule may include nights, weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • Completion of High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • General knowledge and experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or other related field
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic clean up and custodial duties on grounds, facilities and equipment
  • Picks-up litter, lifts and empties garbage cans, cleans public restrooms and offices
  • Performs regular maintenance of grounds including mowing, weed eating, edging, pruning, trimming, spraying, watering, chemical treatment, digging, planting and general care of grass, plants, flowers, shrubs and trees
  • Removes leaves, limbs, and debris from grounds
  • Performs light equipment maintenance, including cleaning equipment after use
  • Applies chemicals and fertilizers in general grounds maintenance activities
  • Assists with preventive maintenance of recreation and parks facilities
  • Paints buildings, shelters and playground equipment
  • Assists in general repairs to buildings, shelters and playground equipment
  • Assists in setting up temporary stages, moving equipment, tables, chairs and picnic tables for group events
  • Assists with opening preparations of pool by sweeping the pool bottom, cleaning off deck, putting out furniture and accessories, and help with pool maintenance when needed during regular pool operation
  • Operates park boat to assist in towing disabled watercraft back to dock
  • Assists with dock and water buoy maintenance and repairs
  • Assists visitors by giving general information about the park and providing directions when needed
  • Assists with park operations, such as concessions, amusements, and marina operations
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision
  • Does general maintenance as required
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies
