About The Position

The Seasonal Media Assistant is an important entry-level member of a team that is tasked with implementing a wide variety of weekly play, art making, and educational activities for park visitors of all ages. Under the guidance of the Art Director and Director of Parks Programming will create a summer season sizzler reel that will highlight events and activities in Battery Park City that may be used for future promotions. Part of the job will include working closely with the Art Director on selecting target audiences, park locations and select events which will dictate the design. This is a seasonal position, starting April 15 and, depending on candidate’s ability to fulfill the essential duties, may continue until October 31. Hours will fluctuate up to 20 hours per week depending on scheduled events and programs with some evening, holiday and weekend work required. Essential Duties: The Media Assistant will document parks programming via photo, video and media. Working with the Art Director, the Media Assistant will also help organize photo/media files, edit footage and create graphic design projects to be used for promotion and educational purposes. A wide variety of programs and events are offered throughout the summer outdoors in the parks and indoors in managed community spaces of Battery Park City. Given the timing of BPCA’s public programs and events, the Media Assistant must be flexible and spontaneous regarding their availability which may include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in visual arts, teaching, and working with children in schools, summer camps, afterschool programs or other organized group settings is required.
  • BPCA seeks high energy, fun-loving candidates with a demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for engaging a diverse audience of participants.
  • BPCA seeks candidates with a high sense of emotional intelligence and compassion to gauge the needs and interests of all members of the community, including children and adults of different ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Willing to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry 35+lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with adults in education/ arts setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Document summer events and programs as scheduled
  • Take an active role loading, transporting, and unloading supplies, etc. at programs and events
  • Organize footage and photos so they can be easily found for video/media-based projects
  • At the direction of the Art Director create promotional/ educational graphics
  • Perform other duties within the scope as requested by the Programming Director and Vice President
