About The Position

An established public media organization is seeking an entry-level Archives Assistant to support an archivist with organizing and digitizing a large collection of legacy materials. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role ideal for someone looking for a “foot in the door” opportunity in media, archives, or public broadcasting. You’ll play a key role in helping modernize archival systems by inventorying, logging, and preparing historical media assets for long-term preservation.

Requirements

  • Basic office and computer skills, including comfort working with spreadsheets
  • Ability to stay focused and engaged while performing repetitive administrative tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Bright, curious, and willing to learn

Responsibilities

  • Inventory and organize boxes of physical media (primarily tapes) and digital files stored on hard drives
  • Log and track materials in a centralized database
  • Physically search for, retrieve, and verify archival items on-site
  • Gather, cross-reference, and validate information from multiple data sources
  • Perform repetitive administrative and data-entry tasks with accuracy and consistency
  • Maintain spreadsheets and records using Microsoft Excel and other office tools
  • Work independently once trained, while collaborating closely with the archivist
