About The Position

This is a seasonal role at Wilderness Ranch that works alongside the Camp Manager to oversee the Sites and Facilities Department. Responsibilities include staff and development, buildings and equipment, operations, budget, and administrative needs for the department. This role involves training interns, guides, and summer staff on maintenance and site & facilities related tasks, as well as some administrative work. The position requires supervising assigned staff, including full and part-time camping staff, maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers, and other project assistants. Collaboration with the site and facilities superintendent or camp manager, guest services coordinator, and other staff is essential for property use and ensuring a positive work experience for volunteers. Maintaining operating records as required and engaging in the Individual Development Plan process for training and development are also key aspects of the role. The position requires the ability to relocate to the remote Wilderness Ranch basecamp from May to August each year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Any necessary certifications as required by the local municipality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks

  • Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff.
  • Responding to the unexpected needs of a guest in a prompt and professional manner is important.
  • All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.
  • Strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, ability to teach/lead other staff in those trades
  • Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks

  • Physically able to do the work

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired
  • Certification(s) in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired
  • Ability and willingness to obtain certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan with direction from supervisor.
  • Build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.
  • Offer leadership and direction to those workers assigned to you.
  • Supervise staff, as the Site and Facilities Superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter.
  • This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function at camp.
  • Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at camp.
  • Cooperate with all other departments at camp to operate as a team and produce a well-functioning body.
  • Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the Camp Manager.
  • At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment.
  • Demonstrate a posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
  • Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry at < >.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
  • Execute daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
  • Execute all DIN/PM items assigned.
  • Document all work completed and items maintained.
  • Execute all duties as assigned.
  • Maintain operating records as required by the Site and Facilities Superintendent.
  • Operate and maintain camp property in a manner consistent with the instructions received from the Site and Facilities Superintendent and the Camp Manager.
  • Training interns, guides, summer staff on all things maintenance and site & facilities related.
  • Includes some administrative work listed above as well.
  • Work closely with the site and facilities superintendent or camp manager, guest services coordinator and assigned other staff on all matters involving use of the property for the program and in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at the property.
