Seasonal Maintenance Operator
About The Position
The Town of Milton’s Operations Department is currently accepting applications for the contract position of Seasonal Maintenance Operator – Parks. Reporting to the Supervisor, Parks, the Seasonal Maintenance Operator supports daily activities of operational services within the division. The Seasonal Maintenance Operator will perform a variety of operational tasks to support parks while ensuring they are meeting service levels and following all safety standards. This is a contract position, the successful candidate must be available to work until September 30, 2026, including shift work and weekends as required.
Requirements
- Secondary School Diploma is required
- Minimum one (1) year experience in municipal public works or parks and/or other relevant and/or equivalent experience
- Possession of a class “G” Ontario Driver’s license is required.
- The successful candidate must have a clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits.
- A recent driver’s abstract dated within 30 days will be required if selected for an interview.
- Persons with 4 or more demerit points need not apply
- Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills are required
- Mechanical aptitude to operate relevant equipment
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
- Ability to use heavy tools and lift or move moderately heavy objects (up to 50lbs)
- Able to work outside in inclement weather
Nice To Haves
- Post-secondary education in parks or maintenance or related field and/or combination of relevant post secondary education and related experience
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate / CPR and WHMIS
- Excellent verbal, written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
Responsibilities
- Performs outdoor grounds-keeping duties such as mowing, trimming, garbage collection, litter pick up, ball diamond grooming and other maintenance tasks on parks, sports fields, open spaces, and boulevards
- Operates equipment such as tractors and attachments, one ton dump trucks, truck and trailer, mini loaders, gators, and assorted small engines
- Directs, guides and leads other staff assigned to work as part of the crew
- Maintains parks and open spaces to a safe and tidy standard and manages time effectively to complete work plans
- Represents the Town of Milton in a professional manner and prioritizes customer service
- Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Perform all other duties in a professional manner as assigned in accordance with Department objectives
