Position Summary Maintain and enforce safe waterfront practices while implementing waterfront activities. Assist in the supervision of campers, staff, and volunteers during waterfront activity times. Be an active participant in the girls’ experience and camp community. Uphold all camp policies, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and campers.

Requirements

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Current certification American Red Cross Lifeguard or certification from another organization having equal standards.
  • Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program, enroll as a Girl Scout member and have an approved background check completed by GSWISE.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to make decisions and act wisely and calmly in emergencies.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule.
  • Provide your own transportation to and from camp each day.
  • Physical demands and work environments regularly require the employee to walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and on uneven natural paths.

Nice To Haves

  • Waterfront Module preferred.
  • Small watercraft experience (kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding) preferred or willingness to be trained.
  • Experience in an aquatic setting; lake setting experience or certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enforce safe waterfront practices while implementing waterfront activities.
  • Assist in the supervision of campers, staff, and volunteers during waterfront activity times.
  • Be an active participant in the girls’ experience and camp community.
  • Uphold all camp policies, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and campers.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of campers.
  • Lifeguard for the waterfront events, including facilitating activities.
  • Teach, lead, and/or supervise paddling activities.
  • Participate in drills and skills practice for the lifeguards.
  • Conduct daily check of area and equipment for organization, safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Report needed repairs.
  • Assist in the opening and closing of the waterfront for the summer and daily.
  • Ensure adherence to Wisconsin ATCP 78, and GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints for Water Activities.
  • Help campers and volunteers follow directions and rules.
  • Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities.
  • Ensure implementation of the Girl Scout program.
  • Share with girls about the process of being a lifeguard, to encourage future lifeguards for camp.
  • Promote a sense of responsibility toward preservation of natural resources at the waterfront site.
  • Help with daily camp operations as needed and as time permits (e.g., flag, fire building, activities).
  • Lead or assist with water-related program activities as requested such as Yell and Tell and fishing.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Camp Director.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $99 per day, or $495 for a standard 5-day work week.
