About The Position

The Village of Palatine Department of Public Works is seeking a Seasonal Laborer. This position will primarily be assigned to the Forestry Division, but will be expected to assist in other Divisions as directed.

Job Description:
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
M Maintains the urban forest, including planting, removal, trimming, mulching, and general care of trees and shrubs.
M Maintains landscape beds, medians, pots and planters, including planting, weeding, mulching, and general care.
M Performs brush collection, prepares civic displays, and assists with landscape improvements.
M Assists with Streets Division activities including maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, and parking lots; maintaining Village signage; installing temporary signage for special events; hauling materials; and leaf collection.
M Operates a variety of light-duty trucks and equipment in the repair, maintenance and construction of public works water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems, streets, and urban forest.
M Assists with the preparations and tear down/cleanup for events, festivals, and special functions.
M Inspects and maintains vehicles and equipment; reports malfunctions to supervisor.

Requirements

• Ability to operate vehicles, equipment and machinery such as light to heavy-duty trucks, hand and power tools, mowers, string trimmers, brush chippers, hedge trimmers, and chain saws.
• Ability to tolerate both inside and outside environmental conditions. Position is performed under fluctuating and extreme temperatures, with some exposure to noise.
• Must be eligible for employment in the U.S. and pass a pre-employment background check and medical and drug screening (including cannabis).
• Must be 18 or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Possession of a valid Illinois driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

• Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is preferred.
