About The Position

This is a non-benefited, temporary position with up to a 40-hour work week. Perform a variety of unskilled labor activities in the routine maintenance of trees on city properties and public rights-of-way.

Requirements

  • Formal or informal education, training, or experience which ensures the ability for successful job performance.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license as required.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Skills to operate power equipment used in tree and landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
  • The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing.
  • The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
  • I will regularly review, understand, and adhere to the City of Cheyenne Employee Handbook and Rules & Regulations, as applicable to part-time employees. These documents are located on the City of Cheyenne Website, under the Human Resources tab, and are updated annually

Responsibilities

  • Performs tree work such as planting, pruning, mulching, and watering.
  • Assists with maintaining landscaped beds which includes weeding, picking-up trash, fixing irrigation, pruning and string trimming.
  • Operates power equipment and a variety of hand tools and sprayers.
  • Operates large equipment such as brush chippers, dump trucks, water trucks and other forestry equipment as needed.
  • Performs minor maintenance on equipment and on shop/office buildings.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Performs all assigned tasks in a safe and timely manner.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
