About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with maintenance activities on the County's highway system, specifically focusing on installing and repairing traffic signs on County roads, bridges, and other facilities. The role involves various physical tasks and requires working outdoors in different weather conditions.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age as of hire date (beginning of season)
Possess a valid Minnesota driver's license
All employees are required to reside within the state of Minnesota.
All employees must be continuously authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and must be a resident of Minnesota.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the operation of road and maintenance equipment
Experience performing routine preventative maintenance on various types of motor vehicles/equipment
Knowledge of highway sign creation, placement, and installation.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of light and moderately complex construction and maintenance equipment.
Knowledge of the Stearns County highway system.
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in the use of tools, equipment, and vehicles associated with sign creation, complex construction and maintenance equipment.
Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.
Ability to maintain a safe work environment.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Assists with installing and maintaining highway signs, posts, guardrails and fences.
Carries signs and performs other lifting and moving of heavy objects and materials.
Removes brush and trees from roadways using hands and power tools.
Cuts trees and brush with hand power tools.
Assists Maintenance Workers as needed.
Assists the Mechanic as needed.
Attends work regularly and in a timely manner.
Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
