About The Position

The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position Seasonal Laborer II. This role involves cleaning and maintaining public areas of assigned locations such as restrooms, campgrounds, parking lots, trails, and beaches. Responsibilities include performing various manual labor tasks, installing and repairing signs, planting and maintaining trees, flowers, and shrubs, and operating equipment. The position is located at Erving State Forest and is a seasonal role with an expected start date of 05/17/2026 and an end date of 09/12/2026, requiring 40 hours per week. It's important to note that if the position is worked for less than 90 days, it will revert to a short-term position with a salary rate to be discussed during the interview phase. Requirements

  • Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part- time experience in performing manual labor in connection with general construction or maintenance work.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and maintains public areas of assigned location such as restrooms, campgrounds, parking lots, trails, beaches etc.
  • Performs various manual labor tasks which may require some specialized skill.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains signs such as regulatory, historic and information signs by performing such tasks as digging holes and installing supports using a variety of hand or handheld power tools.
  • Plants, transplants, prunes, trims and fertilizes trees, flowers and shrubs; seeds lawns and gardens; sprays for insects and plant diseases; and performs related tasks such as cutting grass, raking leaves and watering trees, shrubs and flowers as required for the upkeep and beautification of public grounds.
  • Load and unload trucks (firewood, park supplies, equipment, etc..), physically or by use of dollies; unpacks and stores supplies and equipment in stockrooms, storerooms or warehouses; and takes periodic inventories of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and tools by washing, inspecting, tightening, lubricating and sharpening edges on all cutting tools.
  • Perform related duties such as repairing and painting guard rails; setting up wooden horses, cones etc. for traffic control purposes; moving equipment, sweeping, collecting and removing trash.
  • Operate handheld power tools.
  • Install attachments such as mowers, plow blades, leaf catcher buckets and vacuum cleaners to tractors and/or trucks in order to equip vehicles for grass cutting, roadway cleaning, snow removal, etc.
  • Operate motor vehicles including light vehicles, trucks, etc., in connection with assigned unit activities.
  • Operate camp registration offices, issue admission tickets, receive receipts and maintain simple records.
  • Perform related duties as required.
