About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for Seasonal Grounds Maintenance within the Office of Public Works, specifically for the Oak Ridge Cemetery division. This role involves performing various grounds maintenance tasks outdoors in all weather conditions and requires the ability to perform physically demanding labor. The position is seasonal, with employment possible through October.

Requirements

• Physically capable of working outside in all weather conditions in a physically active manner.
• Able to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
• Possess a positive attitude and great work ethic.
• A pre-employment background and drug screen are required.
• Current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in lawn or grounds maintenance is preferred.
• Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance duties including string trimming, mowing, raking, decoration removal, and limb pick-up.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding labor.
• Operate maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Demonstrate reliability, strong attendance, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Complete additional outdoor tasks as assigned.
• Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
