About The Position

This is a seasonal gardener position that involves assisting the Horticulturist in various landscape maintenance and horticulture projects. The role requires hands-on work in maintaining flower beds, shrubs, and landscaped areas through planting, watering, weeding, and pruning. Responsibilities also include seasonal planting, routine maintenance like mulching and deadheading, monitoring landscape conditions, assisting with irrigation, and maintaining the cleanliness of horticulture areas. The position demands adaptability to complete various tasks for club events and safe operation of landscaping tools. Property-wide cleanup, including debris removal, is also part of the duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to work urgently and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high-quality presentation standards.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of following instructions and working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to physically lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary.
  • Capable of working in a fast paced environment.
  • Willing to adapt, follow directions and learn on the fly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding environmental demands, including heat, cold, sun and rain, as well as exposure to chemicals and the nature of working outdoors.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plants, planting techniques, and landscape maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with and assist the Horticulturist in all aspects of landscape maintenance and horticulture projects.
  • Maintain flower beds, shrubs, and landscaped areas through planting, watering, weeding, and pruning.
  • Assist with seasonal planting of annuals, perennials, and bulbs.
  • Perform routine maintenance including mulching, edging, and deadheading.
  • Monitor basic conditions of all landscaping and communicate with your supervisor effectively.
  • Assist with irrigation of landscaped areas, including hand watering as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of horticulture areas, and storage spaces.
  • Remain adaptable and flexible to complete a variety of tasks and assignments that prepare us for the club’s numerous events.
  • Safely operate basic landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Assist with property-wide cleanup, including debris removal and general grounds maintenance.
  • Follow all safety protocols and standard operating procedures, and training instructions.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Report to work on time for all scheduled shifts. Notify a manager immediately if you will be late or absent.
  • All time-off requests must be communicated in advance through your manager.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times. Hats worn straight, shirts tucked in, and golf-appropriate work pants or shorts are required (no jeans).
  • Carry yourself with professionalism at all times. You represent yourself, our department and Lake Geneva Country Club.
  • The Turf Care Center will be treated as if it were your home. Our facilities and equipment are expected to be “showroom ready” at all times.
  • Operate equipment safely and abide by your training.
  • Cooperate clearly, respectfully, and in a timely manner with peers and managers.
  • In the event of an issue, problem, or emergency, appropriately notify your manager and the Director of Grounds as necessary.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all club member and employee information and records.
  • Take initiative. If you see something out of place, unsafe, or needing attention, step in or notify a manager.
  • Abide by all other policies listed in the club’s Personnel Policy Manual.
