About The Position
Under the supervision of the Fire Captain/Eng. Boss, performs urban interface thinning and mitigation efforts within Sandy City. Candidates will work with other part-time members on thinning fuels and creating fuel breaks. May be required to respond with full-time members to wildland fires within Sandy City.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years or older by time of hire.
- Valid Utah Driver’s License.
- CPR Certified.
- Must successfully complete Sandy City physical requirements (Walk 3 miles with a 45lb weighted vest in 45 minutes or less).
- Must pass drug test before hire.
Nice To Haves
- Previous Wildland or fuels experience is preferred.
- Wildland Red Card Preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform urban interface thinning and mitigation efforts within Sandy City.
- Work with other part-time members on thinning fuels and creating fuel breaks.
- Respond with full-time members to wildland fires within Sandy City.
- Use discretion and judgment in emergency situations.
- Care for, maintain the condition of, and use department apparatus and equipment.
- Communicate verbally and in writing.
- Write reports.
- Use fire and medical equipment including hose lines, nozzles, pumps, hydrants, extinguishers, ladders, hand tools, extrication tools, air masks, etc.
- Analyze and solve problems.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and City personnel.
