About The Position

Circle Seafoods is seeking an experienced and dynamic Quality Control Operations Supervisor for our summer season at the Metlakatla, AK Barge Plant. This role ensures our fresh, wild-caught salmon freezing operations meet high-quality standards and offers professional growth within an innovative seafood company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or related field preferred. Equivalent certifications or trade/military experience considered.
  • 3-5 years progressive experience in quality assurance/control in food manufacturing, preferably seafood.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience including hiring, training, and scheduling.
  • Experience with HACCP plan implementation and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, SOPs, and SSOPs.
  • Expertise in quality control tests and data analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with electronic traceability and inventory systems.
  • Ability to read and execute complex regulatory and internal documentation.
  • Current HACCP certification required.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication with staff, management, and auditors.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adaptability to demanding conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Better Process Control School (BPCS) certification a plus.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or similar certification a plus.
  • Experience with Alaskan Salmon.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, or commonly spoken languages by the workforce.
  • Experience in remote processing plants or barge operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily activities, scheduling, and performance of the Quality Control (QC) team. Provide mentorship and conduct performance reviews.
  • Oversee implementation and adherence to HACCP plan, SOPs, and SSOPs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations (FDA, NOAA, Alaska). Serve as onsite contact for third-party food safety audits.
  • Conduct and supervise inspections of raw materials, in-process products, finished goods, equipment, and sanitation; ensure accurate quality checks and documentation.
  • Maintain detailed quality control records and prepare reports on metrics, non-conformance, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate quality deviations, implement corrective actions, and develop preventative measures.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to QC team and production staff on quality procedures and food safety.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to resolve operational challenges and promote quality ownership.
