This position prepares alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to patrons requesting either in the restaurant or during a banquet or special event. The role involves enthusiastically greeting patrons, presenting drink or food menus, answering questions about menu items, and making recommendations. The bartender will take beverage orders, serve snacks or food items to customers seated at the bar, and collect money for beverages or food served. A key responsibility is checking identification to verify age requirements for alcohol purchase and balancing cash receipts. The position also requires attempting to limit problems and liability related to customers' excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons. The role involves mixing ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks, preparing appetizers, and slicing and pitting fruit for garnishing drinks. Cleaning glasses, utensils, and bar equipment, serving mixed drinks, wine, and bottled or draft beer, and continuously cleaning bars, work areas, and tables are also essential duties. The bartender will provide ideas for and feedback on bar menus to the management team, and order or requisition liquors and supplies. Arranging bottles and glasses to make attractive displays is also part of the role. Additional duties may be requested by a manager at any time.
