Requirements

Two (2) years of heavy equipment operation experience (for Equipment Operator I).
Three (3) years of heavy equipment operations, maintenance, or construction experience (for Equipment Operator II).
Valid Class “B” Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes and Tanker (N) endorsement at time of application (for Equipment Operator I).
Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes and Tanker (N) endorsement at time of application (for Equipment Operator II).
Must obtain valid Class “A” State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes and Tanker (N) endorsement within one (1) year of appointment (for Equipment Operator I).
Must obtain valid Class “A” State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes and Tanker (N) endorsement by time of appointment if selected (for Equipment Operator II).
Demonstrated proficiency on a motor grader regardless of conditions or ability to achieve proficiency within three (3) months of appointment and for continued employment (for Equipment Operator II).
Applicants must supply a recent driving record issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles in the applicant’s state of residence.
Must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the driver’s Clearinghouse record.
Must be prepared to undergo pre-employment testing for controlled substances and a 3-year drug & alcohol testing background check.

Preferred experience includes: operating heavy and light motorized equipment including front-end loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks in hauling biosolid materials, the construction and/or maintenance of streets, roadways, utilities, airport runways, airport taxiways, airport ramps, and/or airport aprons, using hand and power tools, performing minor servicing of equipment and applying safety procedures.
Completion of a CBJ equipment operation-training program may substitute for one year of specialized experience (for Equipment Operator II).
Certification of completion of training from other agencies will be considered for equivalency as a substitute for the CBJ training program (for Equipment Operator II).
Certification as an ATSSA Flagger (or equivalent) within 6 months of appointment and for continued employment.
Attendance at and certification (as available) in CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space Entrant and/or attendant within 18 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

Operate snow removal equipment, including trucks with plows and/or sanders, motor graders, loaders, and rotary snow blowers.
Perform seasonal maintenance of CBJ streets during winter months.
Conduct snow and ice control operations using heavy and light-duty equipment for plowing, salting, and sanding.
Maintain and repair gravel roads to ensure continued accessibility.
Address and repair potholes and other asphalt issues.
Respond to off-hour requests for emergencies and weather-related events.
Work outdoors in cold and/or wet weather conditions.
Perform physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting and requiring physical endurance.
