About The Position

This role is responsible for facilitating entertainment performances by providing exceptional service and guest experience through one-on-one interactions with guests while assisting performers. The Character Escort will assist and accompany Character performers to, on, and from assigned areas while maintaining safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of performers. This position involves encouraging, recruiting, registering, and scheduling guests to participate in activities for live shows, events, or performances, and promoting a fun, energized, and comfortable atmosphere. The Character Escort will also provide information to guests about recreation facilities and activities, lead and/or perform in live shows using basic scripts and improvisation, and perform confidently in front of audiences while engaging them in activities. Additionally, they will explain and promote facility rules and regulations for guest safety, observe activity and respond appropriately to emergencies, and identify situations where guests cannot safely participate in an activity, informing a supervisor. Responsibilities also include preparing for shows, cleaning, and maintaining recreational equipment and supplies. The role requires accurately portraying character styles, characteristics, and mannerisms, performing inside bulky, hot costumes for extended periods, maintaining specific size and weight requirements for costumes, working with large groups and children, and standing for extended periods. The position also involves following company and safety policies, reporting maintenance issues and accidents, completing safety training, maintaining a professional appearance, protecting company assets, and providing excellent guest service, including assisting individuals with disabilities. Physical demands include moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 50 pounds, moving through narrow or confined spaces, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces and stairs, reaching, bending, twisting, and stooping. The role involves exposure to outdoor elements, wet/humid conditions, extreme temperatures, loud noises, large crowds, and tight/dark spaces, including while in costume. Continuous and frequent manual dexterity is required. The Character Escort must also wear and carry props and gear for long periods, identify colors, and perform other reasonable duties as requested.

Requirements

  • CPR Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Based on Costume’s pre-determine size restriction, maintain size and weight requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-year customer or sales experience.
  • Previous public performance, acting, and entertainment experience.
  • Experience entertaining children and large groups of people.
  • No supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and accompany Character performers to, on, and from assigned areas while maintaining the Special Events Character Handling Guidelines to provide for the safety and physical well-being of Character performers.
  • Encourage, recruit, register, and schedule guests to participate in activities for the live shows, events or performances.
  • Promote a fun, energized and comfortable atmosphere for guests.
  • Provide information to guests about available recreation facilities and activities, including providing tours.
  • Lead and/or perform in live shows following basic scripts and using improvisation during shows as needed.
  • Perform confidently in front of audiences while engaging audience members in live-show activities.
  • Explain and promote the rules and regulations of the facility intended for the safety and welfare of guests.
  • Observe activity in the facility and respond appropriately in accordance with local operating procedure in the event of an emergency.
  • Be aware of possible situations where guests are not able to safely participate in an activity and inform supervisor/manager.
  • Prep for show and clean and maintain recreational equipment and supplies.
  • Accurately and consistently portray the pre-determined style, characteristics and mannerisms of each role without any deviation.
  • Perform inside bulky hot costumes for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain size and weight requirements based on costume’s pre-determined size.
  • Work with large quantities of groups and children.
  • Stand for an extended periods of time.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries.
  • Complete safety training and certifications.
  • Display clean and professional uniform and personal appearance.

  • Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces as well as up and down stairs and/or service ramps.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements, wet and/or humid conditions as well as extreme heat/cold (non-environmental).
  • Work near loud noises, around and in large crowds, and in tight and dark spaces, including in a large costume.
  • Continual use of manual dexterity with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity.
  • Wear and carry special events props and gear for long periods of time.
  • Identify and distinguish colors.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested.
