About The Position

The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing and reliable Brand Ambassador to represent the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center in the community. This part-time, seasonal role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about wildlife conservation, education and community engagement. A team of seasonal, part-time Brand Ambassadors, along with the DZS full-time Brand Ambassador, are the face of the DZS at local events, festivals, school programs and other outreach opportunities, helping to increase visibility, promote Zoo and Nature Center initiatives and build positive connections with diverse audiences across metro Detroit. This position requires a flexible schedule, including availability on evenings and weekends. It offers an exciting opportunity to engage directly with the public, inspire guests of all ages and bring the mission of the DZS to life beyond our gates.

Requirements

  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Outgoing, energetic and comfortable initiating conversations with members of the community.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials (up to 30 lbs.) and stand for extended periods of time.
  • A passion for the DZS’s mission of creating meaningful connections between people, animals and the natural world so all can thrive.
  • Must be 18 years or older and have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in customer service, sales, public speaking or community outreach is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the DZS and its mission in a friendly, professional and engaging manner at community events, festivals, school programs and other outreach opportunities.
  • Actively engage with the public to share information about DZS programs, conservation efforts, membership benefits and upcoming events.
  • Work closely with other DZS teams and departments at events to provide a successful, positive presence.
  • Cultivate relationships with external organizations to help establish long-term relationships.
  • Answer general questions about the DZS and direct more detailed inquiries to appropriate staff contacts.
  • Distribute educational materials, promotional items and branded giveaways to event attendees.
  • Assist in managing event logistics, including load-in/load-out of materials and maintaining inventory of supplies.
  • Set up, staff and break down booths, displays, and interactive stations at public and private events.
  • Manage DZS inventory for giveaways at events.
  • Capture and share event insights, attendee feedback and stories to help inform future outreach strategies.
  • Support social media and marketing efforts by capturing high-quality photos and quotes for use by the Communications team.
  • Stay up to date on Detroit Zoo exhibits, conservation initiatives, events and educational programming to accurately and enthusiastically share information with the public.
  • Provide support for on-site events at the Zoo, as needed, including welcoming guests, assisting with check-in, or managing info tables.
