The Bicycle Mechanic position is responsible for assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the Boulder BCycle bike share fleet. Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Bicycle Mechanic will complete safety inspections and repairs on bicycles in the shop and the field, as well as assist with battery swapping, bike assembly, and other operational work as needed. This position will entail primarily indoor work, though outdoor work is possible, with high exposure to the public and potentially inclement weather. Strong mechanical aptitude is a must, and bike repair experience is preferred. Bicycle Mechanic will receive training on the specific maintenance requirements of the bicycles; however, experience working in mechanically and technically minded environments is desired. A strong candidate will support Bike Transit’s commitment to a strong and positive workplace culture.

Requirements

  • Requires High school diploma or GED
  • Proven technical and mechanical aptitude, innovation and critical thinking.
  • Ability to repair E-bike specific issues.
  • Ability to repair basic bicycle electronics.
  • Ability to manage repair schedule.
  • Ability and willingness to follow shop procedures for repairs and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency with computers and ability to learn new software.
  • Highly organized.
  • Excitement, interest in bike share, and sense of humor a must!

Nice To Haves

  • Bicycle mechanic experience preferred.
  • Experience cycling in an urban environment, in all weather conditions, desired.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance of the Shop Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Perform safety checks and repairs in the shop and field.
  • Repair bike as needed to company specifications.
  • Diagnose E-bike issues using various tools.
  • Follow inventory management procedures for bike parts and tools.
  • Perform in field repairs on occasion.
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance on cargo bikes when necessary.
  • Handle public interactions in the field in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Must diligently maintain accurate service records for all repairs completed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
