About The Position

The Aberdeen IronBirds, a member of the MLB Draft League owned by Attain Sports, are seeking candidates for the role of Bat Person. This is a crucial role for the daily operation of baseball games. The Bat Person is responsible for collecting equipment discarded by batters, retrieving foul balls, providing new balls to the umpire, and assisting with other game-day tasks as needed by the teams or umpires on the field. This is a seasonal position from June to September 2026.

Requirements

Must be at least 15 years of age.
Candidates under 18 will be required to complete and provide a signed work permit.
Capable of standing, walking, running, bending, lifting, and carrying repeatedly for the duration of the game or games (2 to 5 hours).
Have a basic understanding of the game and rules of baseball, and knowledge of game situations.
Availability to work 21-42 home games between June and September.
Must be able to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to each scheduled game.
Must wear athletic sneakers to work each shift.

Responsibilities

Collect any equipment discarded by the batter, such as bats and helmets, from the field of play between batters or between innings.
Remove all equipment from the on-deck circle of the team that batted the previous half-inning.
Retrieve foul balls that remain in the field of play.
Provide new baseballs to the home plate umpire.
Maintain the organization of the bat rack, helmet rack, and equipment rack throughout the game.
Assist the clubhouse manager(s) in packing up equipment from the dugout before and after the game.
Assist in cleaning the dugouts after the game ends.
