About The Position

Under close supervision, provides general assistance for a limited period of time in support of assigned operations. Duties will vary based on work assignments and needs of the department. Current need is within the Public Works Department. This recruitment is for a part-time, non-benefited position limited to 919 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) with an average of less than 30 service hours per work week. Unclassified hourly employees are paid on an hourly or per diem basis and shall not be eligible for benefits nor be subject to Civil Service Rules. Although hourly employees are at-will, they are still subject to all other City policies and procedures. This recruitment will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received and may close at any time without prior notice. Requirements

• Some work experience and formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
• Some positions require at least 15 1/2 years of age at time of application.
• Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of routine manual work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, signs, sewers, storm drains, and related structures.
• Assist in patching City streets and sidewalks.
• Replace street signs.
• Paint sidewalk curbs.
• Clean sidewalks and remove graffiti.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Observe safe work methods.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
