About The Position

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Seamstress for the Tailor Shop. This role will perform alterations on various types of uniforms, including white, tropical, and wool trousers, as well as white dress, dress blouse, and full-dress blouses. The position is also responsible for alterations for the Charleston Police department and the South Carolina State Guard. Duties include general repair of uniforms during summer storage, installing class stripes, chevrons, and name tags. The Seamstress will assist a Seamstress II in production with specialized sewing machines and perform general repairs and alterations on faculty and staff uniforms, including civilian clothing. Additionally, the role assists in preparing uniform issue cards.

Requirements

A high school diploma.
Experience in laundry, supply, or sewing operations that is directly related to the area of employment.
3 years of work experience.
Knowledge in hand and sewing techniques.
Knowledge of clothing structure and materials.
Be able to use all purpose, blin stitch, sleeve, post and cylinder machines.

Responsibilities

Performs alterations on white, tropical and wool trousers.
Performs basic and technical alterations on white dress, dress blouse and full-dress blouses.
Responsible for alterations with the Charleston Police department and the South Carolina State Guard.
General repair to uniforms during summer storage.
Installs (tips) class stripes, chevrons and name tags.
