Seafood Sales Associate
About The Position

This role is responsible for keeping the seafood area well stocked and appealing, greeting customers, making suggestions, providing information on seafood preparation, taking orders for future delivery, and helping to resolve customer concerns. The associate will also set up displays, rotate product, ensure seafood is fresh and properly priced, and handle product that is spoiled, damaged, or close to expiration according to company procedures. Maintaining necessary logs for freshness and quality, adhering to food and personal safety codes, and ensuring general sanitation of the department are key responsibilities. This includes following cleaning schedules and department guidelines for work areas, equipment, and counters, as well as proper trash disposal. The role also involves assisting with inventory control through proper ordering, minimizing losses by returning products to refrigeration, and reporting shortages or overages. Depending on training, the associate may assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries, as well as baling cardboard. Cooperation with co-workers and superiors is essential for the smooth function of the department and store. Continuous improvement of job performance and utilization of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are expected. Associates may also be called upon to assist in other departments.
Requirements
- Completed or working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- No prior experience required.
Responsibilities
- Keeps seafood area well stocked and appealing to meet customer requirements.
- Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions and provides information on seafood preparation.
- Takes orders for future delivery and helps fill special requests.
- Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Sets up displays and rotates product as needed.
- Ensures that seafood is fresh, in saleable condition with proper prices and signage.
- Handles product that is spoiled, damaged or close to expiration as detailed by company procedures and standards.
- Removes product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
- Weighs and wraps merchandise for customers and applies sticker showing price and weight.
- Maintains necessary logs to track freshness and quality.
- Adheres to all food and personal safety codes when handling product or utilizing kitchen tools.
- Responsible for general sanitation of the department.
- Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements.
- Disposes of trash properly.
- Helps manager control inventory through proper ordering.
- Helps minimize losses by returning products to refrigeration.
- Reports shortages or overages to manager.
- May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack if properly trained.
- May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained.
- Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors.
- Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
- Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE).
- May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
