The Vehicle Motion and Embedded Controls (VMEC) organization is at the center of technologies that enable every GM vehicle to move, turn, change height, and stop. VMEC is responsible for the development and deployment of complex, physics based embedded controls and software products specific to propulsion and chassis control systems. These controls and software products support cutting edge features, such as Suspension Ride Height, Damping, Steering, Braking, and Holistic Vehicle Motion Control. We are seeking creative, highly motivated, agile thinkers with passion and expertise in Controls and Software to lead technical teams within our Suspension Controls and Software department. This role will enable you to have a direct impact on current and future GM vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in controls system development.
  • Control system integration and testing of hardware and software.
  • Vehicle electrical systems and serial data communications architectures.
  • System, software, and hardware requirements development and validation.
  • Change management
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills
  • Experienced at planning, preparing for and leading meetings
  • Effective interpersonal skills that focus and influence others, including those which may have priority differences with yours.
  • Understanding of Embedded Controls Development & Delivery Process
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a field of Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • 8+ years of experience in vehicle chassis controls system development.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) training or certifications.
  • Experience in the GM component specification and release process.
  • Experience with customer interface technologies.
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and electronic chassis systems.
  • Knowledge of OBD-II diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of automotive safety integrity levels (ASIL).
  • DFSS Black Belt certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Global environment.
  • Experience in plant modeling and analysis tools, MIL, SIL, HIL Testing

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for scrum team’s product content
  • Create, refine, maintain and prioritize the team backlog
  • Accept or reject the scrum team’s work results at each Sprint Review meeting
  • Collaborate with the Suspension Agile Release Train (ART) Program Management Team to refine the Program Vision, Roadmap and Program Backlog for the ART
  • Collaborate with System Architect to determine enablers and coordinate rollout of enablers
  • Coordinate dependencies with other Scrum Managers when deliverables are dependent on other teams for completion
  • Communicate cross functionally both internally and externally to gain alignment with stakeholder, customers, and development partners. This includes partnering with Calibration teams to ensure that planned controls and software meet vehicle level performance requirements.
  • Be the customer voice to the Agile Team. Provide the team with clear information on whom the current and potential customers are, as well as the how, why, when, and with whom they use the product.
  • Ensure the technical integrity of the product is maintained and enables the solution to address program priorities by addressing anomalies and other quality concerns in a timely manner
  • Define clear acceptance criteria and determine demo/sprint schedule to prove out
  • Ensure engineering records are complete and stored appropriately
  • Work closely with Scrum Leader to ascertain team capacity
  • Translate product and feature strategy into User Stories, assisting Scrum Team with Story definition, estimation and sequencing for Program Increment Planning events
  • Work day-to-day with the Scrum Teams clarifying requirements, constantly communicating and gaining alignment around Feature or Product Strategy
  • Provide clearly defined acceptance criteria to enable Behavior Driven (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Participate in BDD Behavioral Test Spec Triad discussions for applicable Solutions
  • Provide guidance for System Demonstration Strategy during Story creation (unit, integration and system level test strategy)
  • Verify Stories are testable and can be used to generate testing objectives
  • Ensure verification and testing of features occurs prior to End User Acceptance
  • Ensure the technical integrity of the product is maintained and enable the solution to address program priorities (Features and Enablers), thoroughly addressing anomalies and other quality concerns in a timely manner
  • Accept each story and participate in Team Demonstrations and Retrospectives to ensure quality, providing feedback to team and improving team processes
  • Ensure that Stories meet their pre-determined acceptance criteria, have appropriate, persistent Acceptance tests, and otherwise comply with Definition of Done (DoD)
  • Participate in the following Team and Program Events: Program Increment Planning, Iteration Retrospectives, ART Inspection and Adapt sessions, ART Synchronizations
  • Provide guidance and coaching to Scrum Team members
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
