About The Position

Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established federal, state, and accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available.

Requirements

  • Operating room experience required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist or proof of equivalent training.
  • All employees must be able to provide proof of their identity and their right to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience desired.
  • Proficient in scrubbing for a variety of surgical cases.

  • Anticipates the needs of physicians and ensures that all equipment, instruments, medical gases, and supplies are readily available for each procedure.
  • Maintains adequate levels of supplies and medical gases in accordance with caseload demands.
  • Willingness to assume additional duties or assignments as needed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues promptly and effectively.
  • Demonstrates awareness of potential risks, complications, and safety protocols.
  • Reports and documents malfunctioning equipment per policy.
  • Follows established procedures for equipment repair and replacement.
  • Anticipates and prepares equipment and supplies per surgeon preference.
  • Selects and utilizes supplies in an organized, cost-effective, and timely manner.
  • Ensures all equipment functions properly prior to use; removes defective items from service.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the proper use of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Operates mechanical, electrical, and air-powered devices per manufacturer instructions.
  • Ensures emergency equipment and supplies are accessible at all times.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and properly stocked surgical suite.
  • Performs surgical counts accurately and initiates corrective action when counts are incorrect.
  • Maintains sterile fields and upholds principles of aseptic technique.
  • Wears appropriate attire and follows established traffic patterns in restricted areas.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterile processing standards and practices.
  • Assists with inventory management, OR turnover, and preparation of sterile supplies (e.g., case pulling, opening).
  • Demonstrates respectful and professional communication at all times.
  • Actively listens, provides direct and constructive feedback, and seeks clarification when needed.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and team members from diverse backgrounds, utilizing translation services when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and openness to new ideas and continuous improvement.
  • Participates actively in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
  • Supports organizational efforts aimed at improving individual and departmental performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
