About The Position

Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, with over 50 years’ experience, involved in civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction. This is a full-time, seasonal position requiring operation of a scraper/buggy. The role involves working in Edmonton and surrounding areas, with a schedule of 10+ hours per day, 6 days on and 1 day off, with overtime after 8 hours per day or 44 hours per week. The company emphasizes a 'Work Local - Work Sureway!' philosophy.

Requirements

Personal Reliable Vehicle
CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
Minimum 1 year operating a scraper (push-pull & auger)
Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

Responsibilities

Minimum One (1) year experience operating a Scraper (Push-pull & Auger)
Operate scraper controls to regulate the height of the blade and bowl to shape and contour the site.
Operate the Scraper in successive passes over construction surface to raise or lower terrain to specified grade, following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
Ensure scraper/ buggies are in proper gear, and is not moving too fast for working conditions.
Ensures proper use of the cushion hitch while operating the scraper.
Demonstrate an understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and drawings.
Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
