Scientist, Genome Sciences & Engineering

Stylus Medicine•Cambridge, MA
•$125,000 - $140,000

About The Position

Stylus Medicine is developing in vivo genetic medicines using engineered recombinases and non-viral delivery. The Scientist will join the Genome Sciences & Engineering team and drive in vitro functional assessment of lead genome editors, supporting advancement of programs through translational and preclinical development. The role contributes to discovery and engineering efforts involving LSR-based genome editing platforms and works collaboratively across R&D teams. The Scientist will design and perform functional assays, develop molecular and cytogenetic methods, and support high-throughput engineering screens in relevant cell lines, including primary human T-cells. The role also involves troubleshooting experiments, quantitative data analysis, communicating scientific findings, and helping advance optimized candidates into translational and preclinical development.

Requirements

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field; alternatively, an MS with 5+ years or a BS with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with LNP delivery and expertise culturing primary cells, including but not limited to T-cells and hepatocytes, and/or cancer cell lines.
  • Working knowledge of gene editing technologies such as CRISPR nucleases, recombinases, base editors, or transcriptional effectors.
  • Experience with flow cytometry and laboratory automation platforms for cell-based screening workflows.
  • Proficiency in nucleic acid quality-control methods, including TapeStation, Qubit, NanoDrop, and qPCR.
  • Track record of independently generating reproducible data and performing rigorous quantitative analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and comfort managing complex datasets and overlapping projects.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to plan and prioritize for scientific impact.
  • Clear, approachable communication style and ability to make complex concepts accessible across disciplines.
  • Collaborative, team-first mindset.
  • Decisive problem-solving ability and comfort working amid scientific uncertainty.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute in vitro functional assays supporting candidate selection and preclinical development of lead genome editors and advancing platform and program objectives.
  • Develop and optimize molecular assays, including ddPCR and qPCR, and cytogenetic assays, including KromaTiD and optical genome mapping, to measure genome editor activity, specificity, transgene copy number, TCR repertoire, and biodistribution.
  • Support genome editor engineering campaigns by running high-throughput screens in relevant cell lines, including primary human T-cells, and provide timely, decision-quality data to guide candidate selection.
  • Troubleshoot experiments, analyze data, and translate results into actionable scientific insights.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and communicate data and findings to the broader scientific team.
  • Partner across R&D to advance optimized candidates into translational and preclinical development.
