About The Position

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Scientist, Systems Engineer in Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (MS&A) to join the Mission Analysis Group. The role involves working with a collaborative, geographically dispersed team to develop analytic toolsets for constructive simulation and experimentation across multiple domains. These capabilities support customer engagements, proposal efforts, advanced concept exploration, internal stakeholders, and external contract customers. The successful candidate will coordinate MS&A engineering efforts and integrate system performance and behaviors into operational analysis. They will develop and maintain simulation capabilities, models, and analytic tools; support programs and pursuits; and work with technical leaders and subject-matter experts to ensure capabilities meet operational mission requirements. The role also includes documenting and maintaining reusable simulation resources, supporting technical demonstrations and knowledge sharing, and coaching junior technical staff. The posting lists the job location as Palm Bay, Florida, while the description says the selected candidate will join the Mission Analysis Group in Herndon, Virginia. The schedule is 9/80: employees work 9 out of every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off. Relocation assistance is available to qualified applicants. An active DoD Top Secret clearance is required, and the candidate must be able to obtain TS/SCI/SAP clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 10 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 16 years of related experience.
  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain TS/SCI/SAP clearance.
  • Professional experience executing simulation using MS&A analytic tools and frameworks, including AFSIM or STK.
  • At least 4 years of experience integrating systems simulations with MBSE tools such as Cameo, ModelCenter, DOORS, or Rhapsody.
  • At least 4 years of experience with scripting languages, such as Python, C++, C#, R, or MATLAB.
  • Professional experience working with Agile development methodology, version control, and Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Git, or TortoiseGit.
  • Prior U.S. military, Department of Defense, or other U.S. Government engineering or operations experience.
  • Prior management and leadership knowledge and experience in MS&A mission analysis, with comprehensive knowledge within the professional discipline.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people inside and outside the organization, including customers or vendors, and to communicate with leadership about matters important to the function or business area.

Nice To Haves

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Professional experience in operations analysis, mission engineering, operational planning, mission integration, or capability development within the U.S. military, Department of Defense, or another U.S. Government agency.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Advanced experience supporting multi-domain modeling, simulation, and analysis problems and using system-through-mission-level modeling and simulation tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: aerodynamic systems, orbital mechanics, signal processing, sensor systems, and RF or EO/IR physics.
  • Highly effective organization-level communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including data visualization and storytelling.
  • Advanced experience with Government or industry MS&A analytic tools and frameworks such as AFSIM, PIANO, STK/Astrogator, MATLAB with SIMULINK, Python, or Java.
  • Advanced experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo, ModelCenter, DOORS, or Rhapsody.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate MS&A engineering efforts to integrate system performance and behaviors into operational analysis.
  • Design multi-domain simulation capabilities using AFSIM, MATLAB, and/or STK in support of technology and mission roadmaps, internal research and development, and programs of record.
  • Integrate Government-off-the-Shelf and Customer-off-the-Shelf simulations, frameworks, models, and analytic toolsets into existing software infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain analytic toolsets representing each phase of the find, fix, target, track, engage, and assess (F2T2EA) chain, using sensor, effects, and communications technologies.
  • Develop decision-support aids, including data visualization and Unity game-engine tools, to support operations assessment and lessons-learned development and refinement.
  • Document model specifications and maintain a repository of simulation capabilities, frameworks, algorithms, system models, and analytic toolsets for reuse at multiple classification levels, following configuration-management protocols.
  • Create models, simulations, and analysis products to support programs and pursuits.
  • Determine requirements, develop simulation software, troubleshoot existing simulation capabilities, and create software designs and test plans.
  • Support requirements development, system verification, and concept of operations (CONOPS) development; work with technical leaders and subject-matter experts to ensure modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities meet operational mission requirements.
  • Develop new simulation capabilities and processes for employment, and enhance current analytic toolsets.
  • Support internal and external technical expos and roadshows by sharing knowledge of simulation capabilities and products.
  • Support knowledge transfer through coaching and mentoring junior technical staff across the Mission Analysis Group.
  • Direct experienced professionals, lower-level supervisors, or associate managers; establish short-term operational plans with measurable contributions to function or business-area results.
  • Communicate with internal and external parties, including customers and vendors; influence acceptance of views, practices, and changes to concepts or approaches; and communicate with leadership, including through briefings to senior leaders.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
