Scientist, R&D (Epigenomics)

NateraSan Carlos, CA
$116,800 - $146,000

About The Position

The Molecular Biology Research team at Natera is looking for a highly motivated Scientist to join our group focused on developing and advancing Natera's oncology product portfolio. In this role, you will apply your expertise in epigenomics to develop novel cell-free DNA diagnostic assays for cancer detection and disease monitoring. We are looking for a meticulous and dedicated candidate with hands-on laboratory experience in epigenetic assay development who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment to ensure the highest quality clinical assays are developed and launched for our patients. The right candidate maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles in epigenomics and molecular biology with an understanding of their applicability to oncology research.

Requirements

  • PhD with 2 years of experience, or Master’s with a minimum of 5 years experience in assay development for the life science industry, with demonstrated focus on epigenetic research
  • Extensive hands-on experience with nucleic acid techniques (DNA manipulation, PCR, qPCR, DNA quantitation/analysis, hybrid capture)
  • Must have experience performing data analysis with Excel (or JMP).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Skilled at cross-functional communication and coordination

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in liquid biopsy assay development is strongly preferred
  • Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) combined with hands-on experience in epigenetic techniques is a strong plus
  • Experience developing or executing assays using automated liquid handlers is preferred
  • Working knowledge of epigenetic analysis tools (Bismark, methylKit, or equivalent) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan and execute experiments of moderate complexity to develop next-generation automated nucleic acid based diagnostic workflows
  • Design and optimize assays leveraging epigenetic signals (e.g., methylation) from cell-free DNA for clinical applications
  • Perform basic data analysis (e.g., JMP, R, Python, Excel), write study protocols, and SOPs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams, including data scientists and bioinformaticians
  • Generate reports and presentations to communicate findings directly to peers and management
  • Contribute insights towards experimental findings and troubleshoot laboratory processes and protocols.

Benefits

  • Annual performance incentive bonus
  • Long-term equity awards
  • Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous paid time off and company holidays
  • Additional wellness and work-life benefits
