About The Position

The University of Wisconsin Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced Research Scientist to serve as the on-site research leader of Dr. Tamara Scerpella’s longitudinal study of Bone Health, based at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. This position will facilitate all aspects of the lab’s research, collaborating between SUNY Upstate Medical University and the University of Wisconsin to ensure ongoing research continues, and will be a key team member in preparation and of publications and delivery of presentations based upon this work. This position is part-time, 50% This position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in orthopedics-related research
  • Experience in the preparation and submission of publications and presentations
  • Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field is required

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in longitudinal research studies of human growth, specifically through bone densitometry and body composition assessment
  • 2 years of experience with collaboration spanning multiple institutions

Responsibilities

  • Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures.
  • Publishes and presents results to help advance research
  • Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding
  • Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures
  • Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
  • Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues
