We are excited to announce an opening for a Scientist position within our Translational Sciences team for Cardiovascular, Renal, and Immunology therapeutic areas. This position is located at the Bayer Research and Innovation Center (BRIC) in Cambridge, MA.

Requirements

  • Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, biochemistry, or biology
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining mass spectrometry equipment, particularly LC-MS systems, and have experience in troubleshooting and maintaining LC-MS instruments, including tasks like changing and cleaning interfaces.
  • Experience in preparing samples for proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics analysis.
  • Possess experience with acquisition control, data collection, and data analysis software tools from LC and MS vendors, such as Thermo Scientific, Bruker, Sciex, Waters, etc.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining proper documentation.
  • Work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team of experts

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with preparing tissue slices involving fixing, embedding, sectioning, and histology is a plus.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in a mass spectrometry laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mass spectrometry (Orbitrap, TOF) and liquid chromatography (nano/micro-flow) platforms, along with general laboratory equipment.
  • Document instrument performance, organize regular maintenance, and coordinate with service engineers during maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
  • Collaborate with bench scientists to execute analytical and bioanalytical experiments on various biological matrices, including tissue, plasma, serum, and urine.
  • Prepare samples for bulk and spatial analysis following defined protocols and utilize laboratory equipment to execute MS and LC-MS analytical sequences.
  • Work closely with Operations, IT, and Laboratory Managers on-site to ensure the laboratory infrastructure and equipment are fully operational.
  • Maintain documentation and processes for instrumentation, consumables, and reagents storage, as well as sample registration and deregistration using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Provide technical assistance and training to researchers on best practices related to instrument operation, calibration, and performance checks
