About The Position

Corning is hiring a Scientist, IOX Chemistry to support analytical testing and laboratory operations at Sullivan Park, Corning’s R&D campus in Corning, New York. This is an onsite role working a Monday–Friday daytime schedule, typically around 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position focuses on ion chromatography (IC) and plays an important role in generating high-quality analytical data, maintaining instrument reliability, and supporting research and development tied to Corning’s advanced glass technologies, including Gorilla Glass. In this role, you will be a hands-on technical resource in the lab, helping ensure reliable sample analysis, strong data quality, and smooth day-to-day instrument performance. You’ll work across analytical testing, troubleshooting, method development, and lab operations, partnering with internal teams to support innovation and problem-solving in a development environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Experience working with analytical laboratory instrumentation
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to manage technical documentation, data, and multiple priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with ion chromatography systems and associated software
  • Experience with Thermo Fisher IC systems
  • Background in analytical method development and validation
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety practices, hazardous waste handling, and preventive maintenance
  • Experience with modeling, programming, CAD, or related technical tools

Responsibilities

  • Perform ion chromatography analyses and review data for accuracy, consistency, and timely reporting
  • Prepare calibration and check standards and support routine instrument calibration and performance verification
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair IC systems, including replacing consumables and common wear components
  • Develop and validate analytical methods to support new testing needs and expand laboratory capabilities
  • Maintain accurate records of analytical data, instrument issues, maintenance activities, and technical findings
  • Manage laboratory inventory and order consumables, standards, and other supplies needed for daily operations
  • Partner with internal teams and vendors to resolve technical issues and support laboratory improvement projects
