About The Position

EMD Serono in Billerica, MA, is seeking a Scientist– In Vivo Pharmacology. The In Vivo Pharmacology Scientist will be responsible for the hands-on execution of in vivo pharmacology studies that utilize mouse tumor models to study the anti-tumor activity of novel oncology and immuno-oncology agents. The Scientist will work both independently and collaboratively as part of an in vivo pharmacology team and will be responsible for study execution, data analysis and generation of electronic notebooks. The successful candidate will work efficiently with multiple projects and provide high-quality data package within project timelines.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Oncology, Immunology, or other Life Science discipline with 3+ years of hands-on experience with administering compounds via various routes (PO, IV, IP, SC) and blood/tissue collection OR Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Oncology, Immunology, or other Life Science discipline with 5+ years of hands-on experience with administering compounds via various routes (PO, IV, IP, SC) and blood/tissue collection
  • 3+ years of experience with mammalian cell culture

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mouse models of cancer, including tumor cells implantation and tumor measurements
  • Proficiency in data collection/documentation of all study results in the form of lab notebook reports and, as needed, contribution to the authorship of regulatory submission documents
  • Understanding and previous experience with immunological readouts, E.g., FACS-based immunophenotyping, cytokine profiling (multiplex assays), assessment of tumor immune infiltrates, and functional assays (ELISPOT, cytotoxicity assays)
  • Experience with patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models and humanized mouse models
  • Hands-on experience conducting small animal research studies involving image guided radiation or live imaging (e.g. micro-CT, IVIS imaging, MRI)
  • Strong statistical and data visualization skills; proficiency with software such as GraphPad Prism, R, or Python for data analysis
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Independent planning and hands-on execution of in vivo pharmacology studies that utilize mouse tumor models for cancer therapy.
  • Perform sample processing from multiple tissue sources for downstream analysis and support sample analysis.
  • Maintenance of mammalian cell culture.
  • Analyze and interpret data; prepare comprehensive technical reports, statistical analyses, and visualizations for internal stakeholders.
  • Optimize and validate in vivo pharmacology assays and readouts (tumor models, PK/PD, biomarker readouts); troubleshoot and propose alternative experimental designs, controls, and readouts as needed.
  • Follow IACUC protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs); maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and data in an electronic laboratory notebook in accordance with company policy.
