General Atomics Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) division designs, manufactures and characterized first-of-a-kind precision components in support of the National Laboratories, fusion and science technologies. Components are manufactured and measured on a variety of highly-specialized and precise equipment and are often millimeter in scale with micron-sized features and tolerances. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Materials/Chemical Process Scientist to join our Energy – Inertial Fusion Technology Team, located in Torrey Pines, CA. Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for determining and developing effective approaches for resolving a wide range of difficult scientific problems. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated results. Work is reviewed at milestones or at completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Documents findings, communicates results to scientific staff and makes technical presentations as required. May coordinate segments of a specific project and may have frequent inter-organization and customer contact on difficult technical issues. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may provide direction to less experienced professional staff.
