Scientist II, Functional Bioassays & High Throughput Screening

Generate Biomedicines•Somerville, MA
•$114,000 - $150,000

About The Position

The Functional Bioassays team is seeking a bench-focused Scientist II to develop, optimize, and execute functional assays across Generate’s therapeutic portfolio. The role generates high-quality data to guide protein design and program decisions, including AI/ML-enabled design cycles. Work includes designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting biochemical and cell-based assays; executing high-throughput screening campaigns; analyzing results; and supporting automation integration across programs. Assay platforms may include ion-channel, GPCR, ADC-related, and other functional assays as portfolio needs evolve. Approximately 80–90% of the role is laboratory-based. The scientist collaborates with colleagues across Therapeutics, Technology, and cross-functional program teams to deliver well-controlled data for iterative design-build-test-learn cycles. The position suits a hands-on scientist experienced in functional assay development and high-throughput screening who can take ownership of experiments, communicate results clearly, and adapt to changing program needs. The successful candidate will join Generate’s Functional Bioassays team during significant portfolio growth and help advance therapeutic programs through functional data and rapid design-build-test-learn cycles. The role involves working across diverse biology, learning new assay platforms, and building expertise in assay development, high-throughput screening, automation, and drug discovery in a collaborative environment.
