About The Position

Air Liquide Electronics innovative electronic materials respond to increasingly challenging customer demands for improved mobility, connectivity, computing power and energy consumption. We offer ultra pure carrier gases, a wide range of specialty gases and advanced precursor molecules, enabling equipment for safe distribution, purification and on-line purity control. On site, manufacturers rely on our expertise in providing full management of these gases, advanced molecules and equipment and in helping to continuously improve production processes. Balazs NanoAnalysis, a division of Air Liquide Group, is seeking a Scientist II for its Morrisville, Pennsylvania site. Our Chemical Lab specializes in QC/QA, failure analysis and trace level contamination in gases used in the electronics industry. We utilize Gas Chromatography principles, FTIR and moisture analyzers as main instruments in our laboratory with a potential of using ICP-MS, various analyzers, and other analytical instrumentation. The Scientist II will serve as a Lead Technical Contributor in analytical metrology, combining technical expertise with the support of routine and non-routine analytical projects. This role leads the strategic development and implementation of critical testing procedures, partnering to ensure measurement capabilities advance to international standards while fostering customer-facing relationships and providing technical support across the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, or a related scientific field with 2–5 years of industrial experience OR M.S. degree with 5–7 years of industrial experience.
  • Proficient in computer skills such as LIMS, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and spotfire or other SPC graphing tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management experience, with the ability to lead cross-functional technical teams.
  • Must have the flexibility and initiative required to manage high-priority, time-sensitive projects and provide expert coverage as needed.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical information to both internal and external customers.
  • Strong organizational and meticulous record-keeping skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work late hours, some holiday & weekend when coverage may be required.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with good communication skills.
  • Must have initiative and be self-motivated and have ability to lead small teams.

  • Deep theoretical and practical knowledge in Gas Chromatography (GC, GC-MS), GC-ICP-MS, ICP-MS and associated advanced measurement principles, troubleshooting, and method development.
  • Experience with the development, review, and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality system documentation.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to thrive as a technical lead on complex analysis.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all Metrology studies including Instrument Detection, Method Detection, Accuracy, Linearity, Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility testing, including full Measurement Uncertainty Analysis.
  • Knowledge in the design and use of advanced gas dilution systems for the purposes of performing complex Metrology Studies and reference material preparation.
  • Working Knowledge of statistical software such as JMP.
  • Advanced analytical thinking, relationship building, and customer service orientation.
  • Strong project coordination capabilities and ability to provide technical guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing robust analytical methods for gas impurity analysis to meet internal and external requests.
  • Conducting complex routine and non-routine analysis using Gas Chromatography (GC), GC-MS, and FTIR, providing insightful interpretation of data.
  • Leading and coordinating analytical projects and providing technical guidance and mentorship to chemists and lab technicians.
  • Communicating results effectively to internal and external customers and understanding strategic needs.
  • Maintaining laboratory instrumentation performance and providing feedback into the preventive maintenance program.
