About The Position

The Scientist II will support the development and analytical characterization of novel lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-based delivery systems for in vivo genome editing and gene therapy applications. The role is based in San Diego, California, and is offered as a long-term contract with the possibility of extension. The scientist will analyze nucleic-acid-encapsulating LNPs and their components, develop and optimize analytical methods, and evaluate how nanoparticle physicochemical properties relate to efficacy and safety. The position also supports routine laboratory operations and requires accurate recordkeeping and communication of findings to cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree, in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience developing gradient-elution HPLC methods, including RP-HPLC, IPRP, or AEX.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BLI or Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR).
  • LC-MS experience.
  • Familiarity with analytical software such as Prism or JMP.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze lipid nanoparticles encapsulating nucleic acids and LNP components using HPLC and Biolayer Interferometry (BLI).
  • Develop and optimize analytical methods to characterize LNPs and their components.
  • Evaluate relationships between nanoparticle physicochemical properties and their efficacy and safety.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and communicate analytical findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Support routine laboratory operations, including supply ordering, instrument calibration, and scheduling.
