About The Position

Labcorp is a global leader in diagnostic testing and drug development solutions, helping healthcare providers, researchers, and patients make informed decisions that advance care. The R&D group is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Scientist to join the team in Westborough, MA to support assay development for clinical testing. This is an entry level PhD position and will require working at the bench. The role involves innovating, designing, and executing proof-of-concept studies, providing technical expertise, and performing validation studies for regulatory submission and implementation into a clinical lab.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Chemistry or Biomedical engineering
  • 1 or more years of experience as a Research Associate or Scientist
  • 1 or more years of experience with molecular assays or NGS-based assays
  • 6 months or more years of experience with R or Python
  • Background and technical expertise in design, development, optimization and troubleshooting of molecular assays, especially NGS-based assays
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics pipelines and solid understanding in biostatistics
  • Effective and accurate documentation, organization and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities in a dynamic, collaborative environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and oral communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of experience with clinical assay development in oncology, reproductive genetics or infectious disease
  • 1 or more years of experience with liquid handling automation

Responsibilities

  • Design proof-of-concept studies for molecular assay design and development
  • Develop and validate complex molecular diagnostic assays with specific emphasis on NGS methods and perform critical data analysis and interpretation
  • Design and execute analytical verification and validation studies for regulatory submissions
  • Collaborate with the bioinformatics team and clinical directors to develop NGS analysis pipelines
  • Evaluate commercial products for feasibility and applicability in a clinical lab setting
  • Maintain detailed and organized documentation on all work in laboratory notebooks
  • Prepare and present study reports at internal meetings
  • Train clinical personnel on assays and provide troubleshooting support including any additional experimentation, data re-analysis and/or improvements
  • Keep abreast of current literature pertinent to the project or departmental areas of interest
  • Publish in peer reviewed journals; participate and present findings at conferences
