Latigo is seeking a Scientist to use manual and automated patch clamp technologies to drive development of novel analgesics. The candidate will design, execute, and analyze electrophysiology experiments to understand how targets of interest are involved in human pain biology, as well as to conduct routine activity assays supporting drug discovery programs. The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude, be inquisitive with a passion for science, have an eye for attention to detail, and demonstrate a willingness to learn in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree with 0-2 years relevant scientific experience

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in physiology, biophysics, neuroscience, pharmacology, or related disciplines.
  • Extensive knowledge of ion channel biology and electrophysiology as evidenced by an outstanding publication record.
  • Expertise in practical electrophysiology (e.g. whole-cell patch clamp, two-electrode Xenopus oocyte voltage-clamp, etc.)
  • High level of proficiency with mammalian cell culture and standard methods such as aseptic technique, transfection, cell line generation, and cryopreservation. Experience with primary culture is highly desirable but not required. Experience with the use of human tissues/samples is a plus.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition, documentation, and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to present research results in both written and oral formats.
  • Demonstrated learning agility and intellectual curiosity.
  • Experience with designing and executing studies to advance the pipeline and deliver decision-making results in a timeline manner.
  • Team-oriented with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional colleagues in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Post-doctoral training not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execution of studies to characterize the biological activities of targets and mechanism(s) of action in pain circuitry.
  • Characterization of compound pharmacology by manual and automated patch clamp.
  • Critical analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Preparation and presentation of research results in both oral and written formats.
  • Management of project timelines and deliverables.
  • Support of scientific decision making and pipeline advancement
