About The Position

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking a Scientist in Chemical Process Development (CPD). The CPD team consists of organic chemists, analytical chemists, and chemical engineers focused on designing novel syntheses from raw materials to supply new medicines to patients. CPD scientists develop safe, economical, sustainable, and robust processes for clinical trials and new medicine launches across various drug modalities. The role is driven by innovative science, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative teamwork. The scientific knowledge package from the manufacturing process, design parameters, and control strategies supports regulatory filings to bring these novel medicines to patients worldwide.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry or chemistry related field with 0 to 3 years of additional related research experience or a M.Sc in organic chemistry or chemistry related field with 4-8 years of additional experience related research experience.
  • Candidates must possess a strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry, possess excellent problem solving skills and demonstrate a thorough understanding of synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms.
  • Candidates will have expertise in the purification and characterization of organic compounds (Chromatography and NMR, MS, IR spectroscopy).
  • Good oral and written communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment are required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for route scouting and the design and implementation of safe, efficient and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates with the overarching goal of gathering and determining fundamental process knowledge, scaling and transitioning such processes to manufacturing.
  • The role centers around the design and execution of experiments that are in line with portfolio program strategy.
  • Based on experimental learnings, you will be responsible for analyzing, compiling, and sharing data with project teams and management.
  • Develop the fundamental process knowledge needed to support the transition of such processes from our labs to clinical supply, to regulatory filings and manufacturing vendors.
  • As a member of our process team, you will closely collaborate with our Analytical Chemistry and engineering teams to develop the knowledge and controls needed for the successful supply of clinical materials and characterization of key compounds.

Benefits

  • Medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision care.
  • BMS Well-Being Account, BMS Living Life Better, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
  • 401(k) plan, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, accident insurance, supplemental health insurance, business travel protection, personal liability protection, identity theft benefit, legal support, and survivor support.
