About The Position

The Centre for Youth Bipolar Disorder (CYBD) at CAMH is seeking an outstanding early career full-time, permanent scientist with expertise in suicide risk among youth with bipolar disorder. The successful candidate will have a track record of publications and international presentations focused on the neurobiology of suicide risk among youth with bipolar disorder. Additional research outputs focused on clinical characteristics associated with suicidal thoughts and behaviors are also desirable. The successful applicant will establish and maintain a viable program of independent research focused on suicide risk in youth bipolar disorder. The research program must be capable of producing international-level scientific output, based on the key accountabilities listed below, and in alignment with the strategic objectives of the CYBD, the CFMHRI, and the hospital. They will work in a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment that contributes to the development of evidence-based practices to enhance mental health outcomes for patients, and support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirement. This position is located at 80 Workman Way, on the CAMH Queen Street campus.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Develop and carry out a sustained and consistent program of research projects as a Project Lead / Principal Investigator, independently overseeing and leading all aspects of research projects for the complete duration/lifecycle.
  • Secure and manage extramural research funding from national peer-reviewed agencies and/or industry sponsored partnerships and contracts sufficient to carry out and maintain a consistent and strong program of research projects over time.
  • Maintain consistent levels of research output, including but not limited to: publications as first or senior author in scientific peer-reviewed journals and presentations and dissemination of results at academic meetings and conferences. Where appropriate, other outputs, such as those related to commercialization (e.g. patent submissions; licensing of intellectual property) and data analysis (e.g. database or analytics software development; code sharing) are also desirable.
  • Establish internal and external research collaborations, and over time develop a research profile at local, national, and international levels.
  • Seek out and engage in academic community service and participate effectively in CAMH Research, hospital, and university research-related administrative, and/or other science community activities, such as advisory groups.
  • Supervise, train and mentor personnel (including technical and research staff) and act as the primary supervisor for research trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral level.
