About The Position

Vir Biotechnology is seeking a detail-oriented, highly motivated Bioanalytical Scientist (temporary) to join our Translational Development team. This role will run through the end of the year. In this role, you will develop and implement bioanalytical methods to support large-molecule programs at both preclinical and clinical stages. Responsibilities include designing and executing immunochemistry assays (e.g., ELISA, MSD, anti-drug antibody assays) and preparing samples for LC-MS/MS analysis. You will contribute to immunoassay development across multiple programs and analyze preclinical samples for drug concentrations and anti-drug antibodies. This position is based at our San Francisco headquarters, with an expectation of at least 4 days per week on site.

Requirements

  • PhD with 1+ years, MS with 6+ years, or BS with 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience that combines hands-on laboratory work with project oversight; prior experience managing CROs for clinical and nonclinical assay development/validation is a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of GLP/GCP principles as they pertain to sample handling and storage, bioanalytical assay development, sample analysis, and laboratory operations.
  • Strong technical expertise with platforms used to characterize large-molecule therapeutics, including assays with complex handling and preparation (e.g., enzymatic, ligand-binding, cell-based assays, and LC-MS/MS assays) across a range of biological matrices (e.g., serum, plasma).
  • Familiarity with PK/PD concepts and their application to assay design, selection, and range determination.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work in GCP/GLP/GMP environments is advantageous but not required.
  • Prior work utilizing LC/MS/MS is advantageous but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize bioanalytical methods to support large-molecule preclinical and clinical candidates, providing bioanalytical input across research and development stages.
  • Plan and coordinate method development and sample analysis activities in alignment with program and development timelines.
  • Troubleshoot and evaluate complex bioanalytical methods to identify and implement robust solutions.
  • Prepare and characterize assay reagents using standard biochemical techniques (e.g., protein conjugation, concentration determination, UV/Vis spectrophotometry).
  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation in electronic lab notebooks; compile, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Present experimental plans and results in group and cross-functional settings to communicate assay development progress.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibrations, and performance checks as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with other assay development team members to achieve project and departmental goals.

Benefits

  • The expected hourly range for this position is $56.00 to $67.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
